The World Health Organization, W.H.O has organised a press conference on the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in Africa. During the conference, the WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti noted that the African continent is facing a second wave in the COVID-19 pandemic with more than 3.3 million cases and 81,000 deaths so far. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has expressed the readiness to make the National Identity Number, NIN as part of preconditions for registering voters when the continuous voters’ registration exercise commences in a few weeks. According to the Commission, the NIN would help tackle underage voting challenges, alien voting and other challenges associated with registration. The federal government has warned Nigerians to secure and protect their National Identification Number, NINs. Reacting Technical Implementation Committee report under the Ministerial Task Force, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami urged subscribers to desist from selling or allowing others to use their NINs for registration. The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC has explained how Nigerians could link their sim cards to the National Identification Number, NIN by using the NIMC Mobile App. According to the Commission, the move is part of efforts to discourage the large gathering of people at the different registration centers given the rise in the COVID-19 cases in the country. Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have kicked against the proposed resumption of schools in the country given the increasing cases of COVID-19.
