The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has cleared the air over those he described as the sponsor of the attacks on the correctional centre and Police Headquarters in Imo. Uzodinma made this known a few days after the former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, blamed the attacks on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Eastern security Network, ESN (read more here). The International Monetary Fund has urged Nigeria and other countries in sub-Saharan Africa to do more domestically to increase tax revenues and improve the quality of spending. According to the Managing Director of IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, advocacy for debt service suspension has provided about $7 billion to low-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. Speaking during a meeting in Washington, D. C, Ms Georgieva assured that the region would enjoy the fund’s support in improving governance, transparency and promote accountability. The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, has announced that Avian Influenza, also known as Bird flu, hit Kaduna, Kano and five other states in Nigeria. The Nigerian Army said it has carried out a clearance operation at Ntak Ikot Akpan, Essien Udim Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, to flush out hoodlums and criminal elements terrorising the area. The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has released the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, 2021 WASSCE results for private candidates. According to the Head of the Nigeria National Office, WAEC, Mr Patrick Areghan, the examination was primarily designed to help candidates seeking admission to tertiary institutions to reduce the waiting time for results. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has directed the Commissioner of Police in imo State to fish out the perpetrators behind the Imo Jailbreak and the attacks on Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Services in the State.
