The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has reacted to the new electricity tariff in the country. The Debt Management Office (DMO) has revealed Nigeria’s debt profile including the different agencies and organizations the country is owing. According to the debt stock report recently released by the DMO, Nigeria took loans worth $31.98 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and African Development Bank (AfDB) Group. Barely two months after it implemented a much-opposed electricity hike in November 2020, the federal government has again announced new electricity tariff in the country. It was gathered that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has approved over 50 per cent hike in electricity tariff payable by customers of the eleven Distribution Companies, DisCos. A ShopRite worker in Akure, the Ondo State Capital identified as Jumoke Kehinde has reportedly committed suicide following an alleged suspension from work. The police spokesman for Northern Faryab province in Afghanistan, Abdul Karim Yurash has confirmed that a bomb blast killed the Taliban’s shadow governor in the province, Mawlawi Wakil Ahmad, and seven other militants.
