John Obi Mikel Completes Stoke City Move
English Championship side Stoke City has completed the signing of Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel on one year contract, the former Chelsea midfielder says he determines to help Stoke City gain promotion into the English Premier League. Mikel also said he promised to give his best to help the Michael O’Neill’s men earn Promotion to the Premier League.
The 33-year-old Nigerian is a Premier League veteran, he has stayed 11-year with Chelsea during which he won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, One League Cup title, and also one Champions League and Europa League title, among others.
John Obi Mikel left Chelsea in 2017 and moved to China, he played for Tianjin Teda after that he returned to England in the English Championship, he played for Middlesbrough and then later moved to Turkish Super League club, Trabzonspor. Mikel spoke about how his latest career move was planned, and his target now as a Stoke City player during his first interview session with the Potters’ Media.
John Obi Mikel said: “It’s been a week or so talking to the Club and manager to understand exactly what the ambition of the Club is, and also my ambition and what I want to do as a player,” “I think we have got a good match here my ambition and the Club’s ambition seem to be pretty much the same. I’m pretty excited to see where we can go with this partnership.”
“I’m here to help the club get promoted, I think this club belongs in the Premier League. With the players, manager and a good structure at the Club, we have a good chance. “I spoke to a few clubs, and few options here and there, but after speaking to the manager, who told me exactly what he wants, that ambition was something I wanted. I still want to win and achieve something.”
The Nigerian went ahead to say: “After talking to the manager I decided this is the right place for me to continue my career.”
