The new cases demonstrated the worsening state of the Covid-19 crisis at the club, with the veteran goalkeeper, young midfielder and staff member joining the six other Man City players and three members of staff who have already contracted the virus.

The news comes just a few hours before they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. Yesterday, the English Lish Premier League released the total number of cases and it was run across the Premier League, the result shows a massive rise in the virus.

A club statement said: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Scott Carson, Cole Palmer and one member of staff have tested positive for COVID-19.  “Both personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.

“Everyone at the Club wishes Scott, Cole and all of our other colleagues a speedy recovery ahead of their return to work, training and competition.” The winner will play Tottenham who is already in the final after beating Brentford 2-0.
