Ben Chilwell Signs Five Years Contract with Chelsea
Chelsea has completed the signing of England left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester, the player has penned down a five-year contract for the Blues for a fee of£45m. Chilwell is Chelsea’s third addition of the summer after the arrivals of 27-year-old winger Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, and 24-year-old striker Timo Werner from Red Bull Leipzig.
The 23-year-old English defender is a Leicester academy product who made his debut for the club in 2015 and had a contract with the Foxes until 2024. Ben Chilwell missed the final five matches of the 2019-20 season due to a foot injury, he has been a target for not just Chelsea but for Manchester United too buthe finally completed a five years contract with Chelsea.
Chelsea ended in the fourth place position and a Champions League place at the expense of Leicester on the final day of the Premier League season in July. The player will now be playing in the champions League. According to Ben Chilwell he said: “I’m looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honours next season.”
The player who has made 11 appearances for his national team England already also said: “He [Lampard] does play the younger players if they are good enough and just from speaking to him, I’m really excited to be here. I think the way the gaffer sets his teams up suits my game perfectly.” Chilwell made a total of 123 appearances for Leicester and scored four goals, three of them coming in the Premier League last season.
