Belgium international and former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku in an Instagram Live conversation with Belgian TV presenter Kat Kerkhofs on Tuesday said at least 23 out of 25 players from the Inter Milan team have coronavirus. Both Inter Milan and the Italian management were stunned by this claim as one player in the squad has tested positive the virus since its arrival in Italy.
Lukaku is reported to have said: “We had a week off in December, we returned to work and I swear that 23 out of 25 players were ill. I am not kidding. “We played against Radja Nainggolan’s Cagliari and after about 25 minutes, one of our defenders [Milan Skriniar] had to leave the pitch. He could not continue and almost fainted.
“Everyone was coughing and had a fever. When I was warming up, I felt a lot hotter than usual. I hadn’t suffered from a fever in years. “After the game there was a planned dinner with guests from Puma, but I thanked them and went straight to bed. We never did the Covid-19 tests at that moment, so we will never know for sure.”
From the what Lukaku had said we can see that there is some atom of truth in what he is saying, the playing was peaking from what he observed but is just unfortunate his observation was considered wrong. Inter Milan had to call the Player (Lukaku) to order before the Belgium international apologised, and the matter considered as a closed one.
The coronavirus pandemic has put the economy of the whole world on hold and almost all the football leagues in the world are currently under suspension due to the virus. Players have been contributing and clubs also forgoing their wages just to fight this pandemic. Some leagues are even planing on terminating the season without completion, as at yesterday Wednesday, Italy had the highest mortality rate in Europe with over 25,000 deaths from coronavirus.
