Arsenal Hopeful for Willian Deal
Arsenal is closing in on a deal for Chelsea and Brazilian 32-year-old midfielder Willian. The Brazilian, who clock 32 on Sunday said he will be out of the contract once Chelsea’s Champions League campaign is over and with Chelsea delaying his contract he might just be moving to Arsenal.
There is no agreement yet but it looks increasingly likely Willian will follow his fellow countryman David Luiz at Arsenal, he is asking for more than one-year contract extension from the Stamford Bridge side but they have not said anything yet and Arsenal is willing to give the player the timenhe is demanding for.
Chelsea has offered Willian a new deal but is unwilling to match the three-year contract understood to be on the table with the Gunners. Willian was left unused in the 2-1 FA Cup loss to Arsenal last week due to injury and will not play in Saturday’s last-16 second leg at Bayern Munich as well, with Chelsea trailing 3-0 from the first game.
He has made 339 appearances for the club since signing from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala for £30m in 2013, becoming one of the most popular players at Stamford Bridge in the process. He has won five major honours with the Blues, including two Premier League titles and the Europa League, and won the club’s players’ player of the year award twice.
