Victor Osimhen Still in the Recovery Room Following his Shoulder Injury
Super Eagles Striker Victor Osimhen who plays his football with Italian side Napoli have been left out of Napoli’s fifth Europa League group stage encounter against AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadion in the Netherlands tonight (Thursday). The former Lille France attacker suffered an injury while on international duty for Nigeria.
Victor Osimhen has continued his recovery from a dislocated shoulder which he sustained during Nigeria’s 4-4 draw in Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone in November. The player has not played for his club side since the injury, he has missed three matches for Napoli across all competitions with the fourth set to be against AZ in Holland which comes up tonight.
Osimhen will also miss his club’s away match in Serie A against Crotone which comes up Sunday, but is likely to return in their home clash with Sampdoria. Napoli manager, Gennaro Gattuso spoke about the player’s condition on Wednesday, he released the squad list for tonight’s match against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League before leaving for the Netherlands and Osimhen’s name was not on the list.
The statement says: “As anticipated, the Nigerian footballer who suffers from a dislocated shoulder will still be out and could return for the championship match against Sampdoria at the San Paolo Stadium next week. The manager has however said that he is expecting more from Lorenzo Insigne even as Osimhen is suffering at this moment as they face AZ in the Europa League. Napoli lost the first 1-0 so it is time for them to carry out a revenge mission if they want to keep their chances of making it to the next stage.
