Some thugs have attacked different establishments, both private and state-owned, as they successfully burnt down the headquarters of Idemili North Local Government Area in Ogidi, Anambra State.
According to the police command in the state, it confirmed that arsonists put fire on the state government property yesterday, as the Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the arsonists attacked the council’s headquarters about 2:00 a.m.
He stressed that the attack immediately got the attention of a combined response by security operatives and the natives of the land, all helped to chase the criminal elements back to their hideouts.
He stressed that security a great number of operatives are still over the incident, adding that the police command had put the place under control.
Police, Residents Repel Thugs
Ikenga hinted that the natives in the area were helpful to contend with the attack as some of them joined security operatives to repel the attackers.
Firefighters who quickly put out the fire and restored normalcy in the area played their part in ensuring that the situation did not escalate beyond the level it reached, as there no casualties.
Other properties affected, according to a source who disclosed that the arsonists burnt down buildings within the complex, including the magistrate’s court building and office of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, as well as operational vehicles parked on the premises.
