English Championship side West Brom have held talks with former Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce over their vacant managerial role. The 61-year-old stands favourite to replace Valerien Ismael, who was released from the club on Wednesday after a run of one win in seven league games.

There former Aston Villa, Hull City, Sunderland and Birmingham manager Bruce left English Premier League side Newcastle United back in October soon after their Saudi Arabia-backed takeover. West Brom Albion is sixth in the Championship, eight points behind second. Bruce has extensive experience in the Championship, getting promoted twice at both Birmingham and Hull.

West Brom is hoping to make a quick come back to the English Premier League after they were relegated last season from the England top-flight league.
