5.7 billion USD is a huge amount of money. That’s about 2 trillion naira or 20 – 25% of Nigeria’s annual budget. Imagine investing that huge amount in roads infrastructure, education, healthcare and water, projects that will yield immediate benefits and without having to wait for 6 – 10 years to complete?
In a country where the presidency still maintains a fleet of private jets, where lawmakers budget billions of naira to buy luxury cars and where tales of official profligacy travel far and wide, it is difficult to convince Nigerians that this new VAT increase and other austerity measures are not merely attempts by the government to force poor Nigerians to service the luxuries of public officials.
Circumcision is fairly common for newborn boys in certain parts of the world, including Nigeria.
First, let me put this out there. I think I had a really interesting childhood. I remember all the taboos my parents came up with to scare us kids away from certain things, and I laugh hard. Like me, most children in Nigeria are raised to believe that their parents know best. And many do… at least until we grow up and realize all the falsehood we’ve been fed over the years.
Tooth plaque occurs when food waste accumulates on the internal and external surfaces of the teeth. This is when foods such as cakes, candy, milk, biscuits, maize, milk, etc. are left on the teeth. This makes the bacteria that live in the mouth as normal microflora (they live there without harm) thrive on these foods and produce acids that later destroy tooth enamel, resulting in tooth decay. It can also develop in the tooth rot under the gum and cause breakdown of the bone supporting the tooth.
The word ‘funeral’ comes from the Latin funus, which had a variety of meanings, including the corpse and the funerary rites themselves.
Breastfeeding another woman’s child is known as wet-nursing, and it is not a taboo. A wet nurse may have a healthy breast milk supply from breastfeeding her own child, or she may stimulate a supply of breast milk specifically for another woman’s child.
This is a welcomed move because it will see more and more people taking charge of their lives in a positive way. It will also reduce the number of people who suffer in silence and won’t seek help because they feel it is a taboo or a show of weakness.
As part of the measures to practically correct the anomaly, there is need for the government to provide strict rules and regulation that will guide the system.
A larger percentage of Nigerians living a better life are the ones who left the shores of the country. Our leaders are not left out as they seek medical help abroad while their children also reside and study outside the country. The foreign embassies in Nigeria are filled with our citizens knocking the door of other countries.
For me, constructive conversations are the best because that is where you get to learn a lot about people’s perspectives…
The Nigerian churches are not left out in the scam ravaging the society today. The church, which is supposed to…
It is no longer news that Nigeria is known all around the world for fraud. The country has a very bad reputation for crime and corruption with the accusing finger pointed towards the Nigerian leaders. Internet fraud among other crimes such as human trafficking, kidnap, pipeline vandalism, terrorism, and so on has ‘looting’ by the Nigerian leaders as the main cause.
The irony is that Nigerian celebrities are called influencers and are ambassadors for big brands. Ideally, they should never be on the screens or in any position to call shots. But we find them at the helm of affairs. We call 419ers scammers because they get paid even when they do not offer any value. It is the same thing for our celebrities. Imagine having to sit in a house for three months, eat and grow fat, only to come out to become a force to be reckoned with.
Interestingly, South Africa benefits from our current relationship far more than Nigeria. From MTN to DSTv to Shoprite, it is South African business that are opening shops in Nigeria and raking in far more revenue than their parent South African companies.
It is the fraudulent conducts of Nigerian politicians that pollute the entire ocean of our politics to the extent that politics in Nigeria is now synonymous with lying and deception. Nigerian politicians are notorious for telling ‘nice – to listen lies’ to electorate so as to get voted into public offices. They are extraordinary experts in the art of deception. This unique flair has been enabling them to either gain or retain power easily.
Nigeria is notorious for being a fraudulent nation. This is due to the high rate of Nigerians engaging in fraud…
The seventh iteration of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) just ended in Yokohoma Japan…
Godfatherism has become a norm in Nigeria’s political environment, where an individual can hardly hold political office either by appointment or election without patronizing a godfather because of their power and influence. Although godfatherism is not new in Nigeria but it has assumed a ludricrous dimension in the current Nigeria’s political dispensation.
Recently, Nigerians are becoming more notorious for committing criminal acts especially in diaspora. This negative development does tarnish our national image especially at the sight of international community.
