The current La Liga title holder Barcelona have six of their board members resigned yesterday due to bad management according to them. The six board members sent a joint letter to the club which expressed their concern over the financial implications of the coronavirus crisis for the club.
in the latter they criticised the handling of a scandal in February when the club were forced to deny hiring a firm to attack its own players on social media. The were demanding for an election for a new presidential elections to be conducted in the club which shows their discomfort with the present president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Among the six board members, two are former vice president of the club, they are Emili Rousaud and Enrique Tombas, while the others are directors I the club, they are Silvio Elias, Josep Pont, Jordi Calsamiglia and Maria Teixidor. They took the unanimous decision saying: “We have arrived at this point because we cannot reverse the way the club is managed in the face of important challenges in the future, especially in the post-pandemic era.”
“We also want to show our displeasure over the unfortunate episode about the social media accounts, known as ‘Barcagate’, which we learned about through the press. ” “As our last act of service to the club, we recommend that elections are called as soon as circumstances permit so that the club can be managed in the best way possible and deal with the important challenges of the immediate future.”
Barcelona managemt admitted to the resignation of the six board member as they said: “due to a reorganisation of the board put forward by Bartomeu and which will be completed in the next few days”. In a statement, Barcelona also said they are planning the reorganisation of new board members to fill their space is been planned.
According to the remaining Barcelona board members in a statement said: “the necessary measures to prepare for the club’s future, overcoming the consequences of the public health crisis which is currently upon us and to bring to a conclusion the management programme.”
Barcelona as a team denied the accusations of them club made by Rousaud in the Spanish media and said they “reserve the right to any legal action that may correspond.” Barcelona players recently accepted to take 70% pay cut during the coronavirus pandemic while Real Madrid are looking at 10-20% pay cut both the players and coaching staffs.
