Former Manchester United and Real Madrid Portugues star player Cristiano Ronaldo scored one goal in their 2-0 win over Napoli in the Coppa Italian final.
Ronaldo scored the second goal as Juventus lifted the Coppa Italian trophy. It was the 760th goal of the player’s career.
Ronaldo scored five goals for Sporting Lisbon, 118 for Manchester United, 450 for Real Madrid, 85 for Juventus, 102 for Portugal and still counting, making him the highest goalscorer of all time.
Is Cristiano Ronaldo Really the Highest Goal Scorer of All-time?
But the question now is, is he the highest goalscorer of all time? According to Data from Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) has come out to say the highest goal scorer of all time is Josef Bican.
They also said they excluded players who have never played at the top level. Josef Bican scored 805 career goals (from only 530 games), with Romario on 772 and Pele on 767.
Bican died in 2001, and he played for five different clubs of which the most popular were Rapid Vienna and Slavia Prague. His career lasted from 1931 to 1955.
But among the 805 goals were 27 for Rapid’s reserve and amateur teams, as well as strikes which were not in official international games. So, if they are to remove the ones scored in the mature league Bican will have 759 goals in 495 games.
Comparing Ronaldo to Pele
Comparing Ronaldo to the legendry Pele of Brazil and Romario, with them as well there is some dispute over their goal tallies with both Brazilian strikers claiming to have netted more than 1,000 goals.
Recently Lionel Messi celebrated the breaking of Pele’s record of 643 goals for one club, but surprisingly Santos came out to say the goals Pele scored in friendly games were not counted and if they were counted his goals will be 1,091 for the club.
Ronaldo and Romario
For Romario, he celebrated his 1,000th goal in 2007, but that included youth, friendly and testimonial games. At the end of the day, the Brazilian was only credited with 745 goals in a career that took in South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
So now back to the question, is Cristiano Ronaldo, the highest goal scorer of all time? To answer that, we will say maybe he is the highest scorer ever but is just perhaps.
