Popular Brazilian player Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, commonly known as Ronaldinho Gaúcho or simply Ronaldinho, has been arrested along side his brother Roberto. He was said to be arrested on Wednesday in Paraguay was charged for using fake documents to enter their country. The former professional footballer and ambassador for Barcelona was with his brother when they were both arrested.
He was with Passports which states that he is of Paraguayan nationality, the Passports were found in the hotel room where him and his brother lodged. the details in the passport contained his name and all information about him except for the fact that the nationality on the passport was false.
Paraguayan authorities are currently investigating the case and both brother are their custody although they were allowed to stay in the their hotel room. They are still not being detained, they are still under judicial investigation and they have to testify first before any thing else. After the investegation it will be decided whether they will be arrested or not,” Paraguay’s interior minister Euclides Acevedo told news people.
Prosecution officials Federico Delfino, Alicia Sapriza and Marcelo Pecci led an investigation and carried out a joint operation with the National Police. It was carried out in a presidential suite at the Yacht and Paraguayan Club Hotel Resort in the city of Lambare.
Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, alias ‘Ronaldinho’ and his brother Roberto de Assis Moreira, were staying at that resort. The Paragauyan police got information on their arrival on Wednesday afternoon, and then came to the resort to search.
The documents they came with were analysed to confirm the authenticity of the decuments they now discovered that the nationality was not correct. the two brothers said they were invited by Nelson Belotti, owner of the Il Palazzo casino. Police has contacted him.
Ronaldinho and his brother remain free to move around their suite at the resort but will remain there under custody. The former Barcelona man is currently without a Brazilian passport due to a prior environmental fine in his country. Him and his brother was convicted of illegally building a fishing trap in Brazil without proper licensing.
They were fined £6.5 million but they failed to pay the money and so were denied Brazilian passport by the Brazilian’s Superior Court of Justice.
