Real Sociedad shocked Real Madrid with a shocking 4-3 win in front of the Madrid fans in Copa del Rey. The match was a very tough one for the home team as the visitor took the lead right from the first half of the game. Real Madrid and their neighbor Atletico de Madrid are now out of the tournament.
Norwegian midfielder Martin Ødegaard who is currently on loan in Real Sociedad from Real Madrid opened the scoring in the first 22 minute. They went to the half time break with one goal ahead. The home team Real Madrid struggled to come back to the game in the second half but things became worst for them.
Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak netted twice in two minutes to put the visitors three goals ahead. But things became worse as Mikel Merino added the fourth in the 69th minute of the game.
Real Madrid was able to raise their head up when Rodrygo netted the second for Real Madrid. Spanish defender Nacho scored in the last minute of the game but the goal could not savage the problem for the home team. Andoni Gorosabel was given a red card to reduce the visitors to ten but it was already late for Real Madrid as the final whistle went and Real Sociedad took all three points.
It was the first time that Madrid conceded four times under Zidane in more than 190 matches across two spells in charge. According Zidane he said: “It hurts, we have to be honest, nobody likes a defeat.”
“Despite [trailing] 1-4, we have fought until the end, but it has not been possible. “We must congratulate the opponent and also accept losing.” Although Real Madrid are top of the La Liga table 8 place Real Sociedad knocked thrashed them out of the Copa de Rey in front of their home fans.
The draw for the last four takes place on Friday, with Granada – who knocked out holders Valencia – and second division side Mirandes both in the pot. Athletic Bilbao took the last place in the draw by beating Barcelona 1-0 on Thursday.
