A sad event hit top Brazilian side Palmas as the club president, and four other players died in a plane crash. The club has been thrown into mourning following the horrible incident.

The five sportsmen tragically met their death after a plane they boarded crashed on take off. According to reports, the plane is a small aircraft, and it was flying them to a Brazilian cup tournament.

The top Brazilian club Palmas made this information known in a statement they released on Sunday. The club president Lucas Keira alongside players Guiherme Noe, Marcus Molinari, Ranule and Lucas Praxedes died in the crash.

The pilot of the plane Wagner also died in the crash, which means they were five passengers in the plane and none of them survived the crash. The Brazilian club released a statement saying: “The plane on which Lucas was with Commander Wagner and athletes Lucas Praxedes, Guilherme NoĆ©, Ranule and Marcus Molinari, took off crashed at the end of the runway of the Tocantins Association of Aviation.

They further said: “We regret to inform you that there are no survivors. In this moment of pain and dismay, the club asks for prayers for the relatives to whom it will provide the necessary support, and emphasises that in due time it will speak again.”

The travellers were set to fly out to Goiania where Palmas were due to take on Vila Nova later on Monday, January 25, in the Copa Verde. The tie has since been postponed in the wake of the tragedy according to the Brazilian Football Confederation.

Another Brazilian club Chapecoense which Ronaldinho supported by playing for them when they lost 19 squad members in a plane crash back in November 2016. They joined in mourning with Palmas and said: “Unfortunately, we know how this moment of insurmountable pain from irreparable losses is like and we would like that no other group had to feel the same.”
