One Norwich Player is among the two players to test Positive to Covid-19
A Norwich City player is one of two people to test positive for coronavirus from the latest round of 1,200 Premier League tests. Testing took place on Thursday and Friday, with the unnamed player involved as Norwich beat Spurs 2-1 in a friendly at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, also on Friday.
Test has been carried out on all Tottenham Hotspurs players to know if any contracted the coronavirus as the patient was in the last game they played but no positive test have been recorded in the Spurs team. Norwich management said the player had “no close contacts” with their team.
They also agreed that the player will be placed in self-isolation for at least seven days. The English Premier League which was suspended since 13th of March is set to resume behind closed doors on the 17th of June with Aston Villa hosting Sheffield United while Manchester City v Arsenal.
Norwich City is six points from Premier League safety, they will host 14th place Southampton on Friday in their first fixture of the restarted campaign. The player who tested positive for Covid-19 will miss that match. There have now been 16 positive results from 8,687 tests in total.
A Spurs statement on Saturday said the club was following the government’s definition of “close contact” as being within two metres of a confirmed case for 15 minutes or more. The club added: “The Norwich player in question has confirmed he had no ‘close contacts’ with our team yesterday and our squad has also verified this.” With this report, it means Jose Mourinho and his team are safe and ready for the restart of the league.
