Noni Madueke Wants Nigeria Call-up
Another foreign-based Nigerian by the name Noni Madueke who plays for Dutch club PSV as an attacking midfielder has confirmed that he is open to playing for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. However, he said if he does not get a call from Nigeria he will also like to play for the Three-Lions of England.
This latest development from Noni Madueke will be a boost for the Nigerian Football Federation chiefs who have been looking for how to convince the player to play for the Super Eagles. Nigeria has a record of battling with other countries for players who happens to have dual citizenship of which most has been between them and England.
The Three-Lions have the likes of Tammy Abraham, Tomori, Saka to mention but a few who Nigeria gave call up but the players chose to play for England. Victor Moses, Joel Aribo, Ola Aina and Alex Iwobi were all faced with a similar situation but chose Nigeria. NFF under the leadership of Amaju Pinnick actually wanted Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori to play for the Super Eagles, but it never worked out.
Although Noni Madueke has played for England at youth level, he is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria because his parents are Nigerians. According to the report on Complete Sports, Madueke explained that he is open to playing for the Super Eagles considering his age. “I am only 18 so I have got to be open to everything.
He said: “If he had a closed mindset I would not be where I am now so for sure I am open to both. “We just have to see in the future what is best.” Meanwhile, Noni Madueke has played 13 games so far for PSV scoring four goals since 2019 that he broke into the first team. “
