Napoli Wins Coppa Italia for the Sixth Time
Italian giants Napoli has been crowned the 209/20 Coppa Italia champions after they played out a goalless draw with Juventus and won on a penalty shot out 4-2, the match was played at the Stadio Olimpico. Napoli has now ended their six years of trophy drought with the Coppa Italia and is the first trophy to be won by the Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso.
Boss Gennaro Gattuso is right at the centre of the celebrations, as his team have their first major trophy for six years after outgunning favourites Juventus in a penalty shootout. Gattuso has now joined the league of people who have won the Coppa Italia as a player and as a coach.
Gennaro Gattuso won the Coppa Italia with AC Milan as a player in 2003 and he has now won it as a manager with Napoli.The result means Juve boss Maurizio Sarri’s wait for a first major domestic honour goes on, with Napoli securing their first piece of silverware since 2014.
For Gennaro Gattuso’s men, the title is their sixth since it was introduced, they first won in 1962, 1976, 1987, 2012 and 2014 and now 2020. The other five teams to win the Coppa Italia at least six times are Juventus (13), Roma (9), Inter (7), Lazio (7) and Fiorentina (6).
Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates will look to overcome the disappointment by lifting a ninth straight Italian Seria A title as the resumes on Saturday. Juventus travel to face Bologna as they resume their quest for a ninth successive Serie A title on Monday at 8.45 pm.
