Pascal Gross’ Late Goal Ensure his side Share Points with Liverpool
Pascal Gross’ controversial injury-time penalty saw Brighton share points with Liverpool. The player scored the penalty to rescued a deserved draw for Brighton although Liverpool still went top of the Premier League. It was Brighton’s second penalty of the game, the first came in the first half of the game but Neal Maupay missed it.
The Reds thought they had taken the lead when Mohamed Salah latched onto a Roberto Firmino ball before firing home, but it was disallowed for offside by the video assistant referee. New signing Diogo Jota broke the deadlock in the second half of the game. He received Salah’s pass and then went past two defenders and fired into the bottom corner.
Substitute Sadio Mane believed he had sealed the game with a late header for Liverpool but that was also ruled out by the VAR for offside. And they were made to pay when Andy Robertson kicked Danny Welbeck’s boot with Stuart Attwell awarding the penalty after viewing the screen – and Gross slamming the equaliser down the centre.
Former Manchester City player James Milner has now joined the injury list for Liverpool, while for Brighton, they replaced both Maupay and Adam Lallana, who had only been on the pitch for eight minutes due to injury.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was not happy his game was been scheduled to be today especially lunchtime because they had a Champions League game on Wednesday to play. The defending champions go one point above Tottenham, who visit Chelsea on Sunday. Liverpool has not won in their last two games now, they lost at home to Atalanta in the Champions League 2-0 and now draw.
