Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten Signs for Rangers
Rangers have completed the signing of forwards Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe on four-year deals for undisclosed fees. Cedric Itten, 23, joined the Scottish side from St Gallen in Switzerland while Kemar Roofe, 27, arrives from Belgian club Anderlecht. Roofe scored seven times in 16 appearances in an injury-interrupted campaign at the Brussels club.
And Switzerland international Itten scored 20 clubs goals last term and has netted three times in two appearances for his country. Rangers say both players will join up with the squad after Thursday’s Europa League last-16 return leg with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, Leverkusen leading 3-1.
Former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard who is the head coach of Rangers said he is keen to bolster his attacking options with speculation rife over the future of Alfredo Morelos, and Jermain Defoe on the sidelines through injury.
Kemar Roofe scored 32 goals over three years at Leeds before he moved to Anderlecht. He came through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion but made his breakthrough at Oxford United, netting 26 goals in his only full season there before moving to Elland Road for a £3m fee.
Roofe commenting on his new side: “Rangers are a huge club, with ambition and I know this is the right fit for me to progress my career.” And Gerrard also said: “Kemar is recognised throughout Europe as an intelligent attacker with an eye for goal. He has experienced the pressure and expectation at Leeds United and has played on the continent which will stand him in good stead for his time at Ibrox.”
And Gerrard said of Itten: “Cedric is a goal scorer who will add further strength and depth to our squad.” “The fact we have announced two attacking options on the same day highlights our intent to bolster our squad as we begin the campaign.”
