Juventus Suffers Heavy Defeat as they Missed the Chance to Seal League Title
After last night’s clash with Udinese, Juventus missed out on the chance to wrap up the Serie A title as they fell to what boss Maurizio Sarri called a “messy” defeat at relegation-threatened Udinese. Juventus who have won the Italian Serie A league for the past six years plus and are to add to their trophy collections again this season.
Maurizio Sarri and his troops would have been sealed their league if they won the game last night. Juve went well into the game as they had the opener from a powerful drive from Matthijs de Ligt to put them in front. But Ilija Nestorovski headed in an equaliser before Seko Fofana’s brilliant winner in injury time.
In the last time of the game when Juventus pushed for a winner, Udinese forward Fofana ran from the halfway line, beat Alex Sandro for pace before cutting inside De Ligt and slotting the ball under Wojciech Szczesny to give the home team the winner. The game ended 2- in favor of the Home team Udinese and extend Juventus chance to win the league.
According to Juve manager Maurizio Sarri, he said: “We paid for a lack of order after a good first half.” “We wanted to win at all costs, we were messy and we took the game on a dangerous track and lost it on 93 minutes because we wanted the three points.” “At this stage of the season, it is difficult, we are all tired. We have lost aggression.” He also said: “It’s complicated to stay mentally and physically on the ball for 90 minutes. The games are strange and the momentum changes very easily. The mental fatigue is more than the physical fatigue.”
Cristiano Ronaldo allso missed the chance to seal his golden boot award with goals as he did not score in the game and Lazio striker Ciro Immobile in their own game scored the winner to overtake him in the golden boot race. Immobile scored his 31st goal of the season in Lazio’s 2-1 win over Cagliari to take him one above Ronaldo’s total.
Juventus only need one win to seal their ninth consecutive Serie A title, should they win their next game which will be against Sampdoria they will be given the title. Sarri’s contract with the club is currently at risk and so so really needs to win the league to redeem his name nd his contract. but they are out of form. They have only won one of their past five Serie A games, but the three teams below them – Atalanta, Inter Milan and Lazio – have all dropped points recently.
