Jan Vertonghen Set to Sign three years contract with Benfica
Former Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen is set to complete his move to Portuguese side Benfica as he is undergoing a medical at the club, the club is looking at giving the former Tottenham defender a three-year contract. Jan Vertonghen left Spurs at the end of the English Premier League side after the end of the 2019/20 season.
The 33-year-old defender spent eight-year with Tottenham Hotspur, he was among the team that played in last year’s UEFA Champions League which Liverpool won. The Belgium international made over 300 appearances for the club before leaving after his contract expired and new manager Jose Mourinho dose not want the player to sign a contract because of his age.
Benfica finished second in the Portuguese top flight last season and will enter the Champions League at the third qualifying round stage. Jan Vertonghen did not win a major honour in England. He was part of the Spurs teams that lost the League Cup final to Chelsea in 2015 and the Champions League final to Liverpool in 2019.
