Manchester United Legendary defender and fan Rio Ferdinand have come out blast his former side Manchester United following their inconsistent form, and he said the club is no longer a title contender.
Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer side blew their chance to munt pressure on rivals Manchester City when they drew against Everton on Saturday. The draw at Old Trafford and City beating Liverpool place City at a better place to win the league.
Rio Ferdinand Gives Up on United
Manchester United have won just two of their last six league games. They lost to bottom side Sheffield United which was the start of their fall. Rio Ferdinand said this season’s challenge is well and honestly over after the Everton draw.
Rio said on his podcast: “You can’t defend it. Man Utd was sitting pretty at the top of the league. “We didn’t come into this season expecting to be title challengers.”
He also spoke on how the league started and how United climbed to the top although they were not regarded as title challengers. He said the boys did well to climb up but looking at the table now he will think like other fans.
He also said they had the chance but let it slip through their hands. Ferdinand was trying to compare the team to Manchester City, and he noted City had put their all to win the league which is what United is lacking. He concluded by saying they will end second or third at the end of the league.
