Lucas Digne Ruled out for Months Due to Injury
France and Everton full-back Lucas Digne has been ruled out for at least three months after suffering an ankle injury in training earlier this week. The 27-year-old France defender is set to have surgery on Monday “before commencing his rehabilitation”.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti said Lucas Digne was a “big loss because he is one of the best left-backs in Europe”. They will be playing today against Leeds United and the French international will not be part of the game. The defender has been one of the outstanding performers this season for Everton, who are sixth in the league. He was in their 3-1 lost to Manchester United and also their last win over Fulham in the English Premier League.
Everton will now have to rely on 20-years-old Niels Nkounkou who joined them on a free transfer from Marseille in July, is likely to deputise for Digne. Lucas Digne’s absence is a major setback for the Toffees, who host Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League in December as well as having a trip to Leicester City and a Carabao Cup quarter-final at home to Manchester United.
