Everton Contact Ex England Legends for New Job

Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard are currently on the list for Everton managerial roles following the sack of their manager Raphael Benitez. The two Englishmen have been picked by the Toffees for managerial options after an initial move for Roberto Martinez ended in frustration.

The Toffees could not persuade the Belgian Football Association to allow Martinez to join them with the World Cup in months to come. Duncan Ferguson has been named caretaker manager while the club pursues alternatives to Martinez. Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, 43, has been out of a job since he was sacked by Chelsea in January 2021.

Former Wayne Rooney who is both Manchester United and their legend is currently managing Championship side Derby County. Everton confirmed on Tuesday that assistant manager Ferguson would step up, for now, having previously taken the caretaker role in December 2019.

The club is also looking at former Croatia and West Ham manager Slaven Bilic, who had a short spell as a player at Everton, and former Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre have also been touted. Everton owner Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright are leading the pursuit of a new manager and initially had hopes of making an appointment before their next game which is against Aston Villa.
