Manchester United is reportedly in contact with former Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde about the possibility of becoming the Premier League club’s new interim head coach until the end of the campaign.
After the sack of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer United, former player Michael Carrick took over as the caretaker manager, and he started his reign in a very good way as they beat Villarreal 2-0 away from home, which is United’s first clean sheet in a very long time.

Manchester United plans to appoint an interim manager for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign before seeking a long-term manager that will replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino also line for the job.
Mauricio Pochettino, however, downplayed the rumours linking him to the Old Trafford team. Reports also said United have spoken with Valverde about the role, with the 57-year-old interested in taking charge of the club for the rest of the season.
The report claims that Valverde has already started ‘sounding out potential players’ that could be signed to boost the squad during the January transfer window. The Spaniard, who is allegedly on a five-man shortlist for the role, has been out of work since leaving Barcelona in 2020 following two and a half spell with them. Ernesto Valverde has managed the likes of Athletic Bilbao, Espanyol, Olympiacos, Villarreal and Valencia.
