Egypt national team has revealed their African Cup squad and they have added Aston Villa’s Trezeguet to the team. The 25-man squad included the player who has not played for them since April. The 27-year-old had an operation on a knee injury that he suffered in a loss to Liverpool on 10 April and meant he missed all six of the Pharaohs’ 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
As expected coach Carlos Queiroz also included Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who is set to captain the team, and Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny for the tournament that begins on 9 January in Cameroon. The other three overseas-based players are Ahmed Hegazi, Mostafa Mohamed who plays in Turkey, and Omar Marmoush who plays in Germany.
They will begin their campaign on 11 January against Nigeria, before playing Guinea-Bissau and finally Sudan.
