Edinson Cavani Receives Straight Red Card as Brazil beat Uruguay
Edinson Cavani of Manchester United received a straight red card after a video assistant referee reviews his challenge on Everton striker Richarlison in the second half.
The game ended 2-0 in favour of Brazil as Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo opened the scoring. Everton star player Richarlison headed in a second on the stroke of half-time to seal the victory. Uruguay played without their star player Luis Suarez after he tested positive for Covid-19.
Despite hitting the woodwork twice in the first half and Martin Caceres having a goal ruled out for offside in the latter stages, the hosts failed to record a shot on target. Brazil maintains their 100% winning record in the South American qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
They top the 10-team group, while Uruguay occupies the fifth-place position. The top-four teams will qualify automatically but the fifth-placed team will enter an inter-regional play-off. Edinson Cavani will now miss their next three games due to the red card. The Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani was sent off in the 77th minute of the game.
