Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea has been named the English Premier League’s Player of the Month, becoming the first goalkeeper to win the award in six years. The 31-year-old Spanish international made 22 saves across four games for Manchester United in January, helping them move up into the top four of the Premier League.
David de Gea Wins Player of Month Award
Southampton goalkeeper, Fraser Forster was the last keeper to win the award back in February 2016. It marks the first time that David De Gea has been awarded the Premier League’s Player of the Month in his 11-year years in Manchester United. De Gea topped a six-man January shortlist; Jarrod Bowen, Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Harrison, Joao Moutinho, and James Ward-Prowse to win the award.
Meanwhile, Wolves boss Bruno Lage has been named the Manager of the Month after taking three straight victories in January. It is the manager first individual award since arriving at the club from Benfica after the sack of Nuno Espirito Santo.
