Manchester United’s new head coach Erik Ten Hag who is still the head coach of Ajax was denied the chance to win their league with Cyriel Dessers goals. The Europa Conference League top-scorer delivered another memorable performance to help Feyenoord come from two goals down to draw 2-2 against title-chasing PSV in their week 32 Eredivisie clash on Sunday.
Cyriel Dessers scores Two to Help Feyenood share Points with Ajax
Cyriel Dessers scored twice in the closing stages of the encounter to all but extinguish any hope PSV had of wrestling the league titles from their bitter rivals. It all could have ended differently, though, as the visitors were cruising courtesy of Cody Gakpo’s first-half brace.
But Nigerian striker Dessers had other ideas, and that man of the moment halved the home side’s deficit with four minutes left on the clock. And PSV’s worst nightmare became a reality after the referee awarded Feyenoord a controversial penalty deep into stoppage time.
Dessers then kept his cool to slot home the equalizer, with goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo choosing the wrong side. While the win helps Feyenoord tighten their grip on the third spot, it robs PSV of the three points needed to stay in touch with leaders Ajax.
Four points now exist between Ajax and PSV with only two matches left to play, and Ajax will claim their 36th Eredivisie title with a win at home to Heerenveen on Wednesday.
