France international Karim Benzema scored a late equaliser to his side Real Madrid stop Atletico Madrid from extending their points on the La Liga table. Atletico Madrid is now five points clear at the top of La Liga.
The former Lyon striker was earlier denied several times by Atletico’s goalkeeper Jan Oblak. The goalkeeper was at his beat in the Wanda Metropolitano.
Karim Benzema Helps Madrid Return to Form
The home team were the first to find the net as they opened the scoring in the first of the game. Former Liverpool and Barcelona striker Luis Suarez scored the opener. On Trippier’s return after serving a 10-weeks ban for betting he provided an assist for the striker.
Atletico Madrid is three points clear of Barcelona and five ahead of third-placed Real Madrid. Real Madrid was denied a penalty for handball before the break, referee Alejandro Hernandez watched several replays on the VAR before finally ruling it out.
Real Madrid keeper also did well, he made a couple of saves in the second half of the game. He was able to deny Yannick Carrasco and he also stopped Suarez from scoring a hat-trick in the game.
At the other end, Oblak made an excellent double save from Karim Benzema with 10 minutes remaining, but Benzema could not be denied the equaliser after neatly exchanging passes with Brazilian star Casemiro in the penalty area.
