Ex-Liverpool star player Ian Rush has branded Mohamed Salah’s seventh-place finish in the Ballon d’Or rankings as a “joke.” The ex International believes the African is way better than that. He said the forward is right up there with the best. Mohamed Salah was one of the 30 players nominated for the prestigious award, which was hosted for the first time since 2019 because of the pandemic in Paris.
Ballon d’Or is a Joke Ian Rush Speaks Out
Argentine International Lionel Messi was awarded the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time, which made many people ask to question the organisers’ decision. Many people believe Robert Lewandowski deserves the award more than the Argentine international.

Liverpool head coach was the first to say his player Mohamed Salah deserves more in the award; now Ian Rush has joined him as he feels that Liverpool’s 29-year-old talisman is consistently delivering the goods in Europe’s toughest league should’ve been taken into account.
According to him, he said: “Congratulations to Lionel Messi on winning the Ballon d’Or for an incredible seventh time but for Mohamed Salah to finish seventh on the list is a bit of a joke to me. I can understand the likes of Messi and Robert Lewandowski finishing ahead of him; they’ve both won major honours and scored plenty of goals, but Salah is right up there with them and should have been in the top three in my opinion.”

He also said from where he is standing, Salah is the best player in the most challenging league in the world to play in, and that should have been considered as well. The former Liverpool player said Salah is getting better as he grows older, and for the African to be number seven, it means the Ballon d’Or outcome is not fair.
He also said the two persons to even compete for the award are Lewandowski and Salah, as they are to him the two best players in world football right now.
