Arsenal Signs Young Nigerian Tim Akinola
Arsenal has signed a 19-year-old Nigerian Tim Akinola from Huddersfield Town, according to reports the player was signed after he was watched on video by Arsenal management. Tim Akinola who is 19 years of age was released by Huddersfield last month after the end of the season.
Arsenal is looking to sign more ‘development players’ aged between 18 and 21 who will be able to strengthen their academy before going on to break into the first team. Tim Akinola is the latest player to sign for the Gunners team after Brazilian midfielder Willian from Chelsea.
The young Nigerian will be with the academy for now alongside follow U-20 player George Lewis who the Gunners signed from third-tier Norwegian side Fram Larvik. According to Jonothan Hill who gave George Lewis his first-team, he said: “It’s been in the news over here about Arsenal but no-one really gave it much attention at first.”
He also said: “I’m delighted for George, but I’m also a little surprised. He’s nearly 20 and never been near the national teams and it’s not like he’s gone off the radar here during his development.” “So it has come as a surprise, but hopefully he can do well over there if it happens,” he concluded.
