Arsenal first team players and their head coach Mikel Arteta have agreed to take pay cut on their pay to help fight the global pandemic coronavirus. The Premier League side said that it was a voluntary agreement made by the players and the coach, they agreed that their annual earnings should be reduced by 12.5%.
Arsenal’s coaching crew and stuffs are also agreed to have their pay cut as well, earlier last week Arsenal hit certain targets on the pitch, the club says “agreed amounts” will be paid back at end of it all. Arsenal football club made this known in a statement, they said: “We will be able to make those repayments as hitting these targets, which the players can directly influence, will mean our financial position will be stronger.”
They also said the agreement is based on the assumption that they will finish the 2019-20 season and receive the full broadcasting revenues. The resulting savings will help cover some of the financial risks they have this season in relation to their matchday and commercial income.
They also said: “The move follows positive and constructive discussions. In these conversations there has been a clear appreciation of the gravity of the current situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and a strong desire for players and staff to show their backing for the Arsenal family.”
“We are proud and grateful to our players and staff for pulling together to support our club, our people and our community in these unprecedented times which are some of the most challenging we have faced in our history,” Arsenal management concluded.
They have now joined Southhampton, Bournemouth, Watford and Sheffield United as the only English Preimer Lieague sides which have accepted pay cut. Watford accepted their earlier this week and Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder and the chief executive of the club Stephen Bettis inspired their players to make the same decision yesterday which Monday with the aim of funding the NHS workers so as to combat the coronavirus fast so the league can resume.
