Andre Schurrle Retires from Active Football
Former Chelsea and Fulham striker Andre Schurrle has announced his retirement from international football, the World Cup winner Andre Schurrle says he doesn’t “need the applause any more” after announcing his retirement at the age of 29. Germany forward still has a year left on his deal with Borussia Dortmund but the two parties agreed to cancel it.
Andre Schurrle during his playing time helped his country win the 2014 Fifa World Cup, he also had a spell at Chelsea and was on loan at Fulham before going back to his countryside Borussia Dortmund. According to him, he said: “The decision matured in me for a long time.” “The depths became deeper and the highlights less and less.”
He also said: “I want to let you know that I’m stepping away from playing professional football,” added on social media.”On behalf of myself and my family, I want to thank everybody who was a part of these phenomenal years.”The support and love you shared with me were unbelievable and more I could have ever asked for. Now I’m ready and open to all the beautiful possibilities that are coming towards me.”
Schurrle played for Chelsea from 2013-15 and won a Premier League winners medal in 2015 despite leaving the club for Wolfsburg part-way through the season. He scored a total of 22 goals for his countryside in his 57 appearances for Germany, he started his career with Mainz 05 where he scored 20 goals in 66 games before moving to Bayer Leverkusen.
At Bayer Leverkusen he scored 18 goals in 65 matches, he later moved to Chelsea and scored 11 goals in 44 games, the player moved from Chelsea back to his countryside Wolfburg. At Wolfsburg he scored 10 goals in 43 games, he later joined Borussia Dortmund and scored just 3 goals in 33 appearances he was then loaned to English side Fulham where he scored 6 goals in 24 goals he left the club after they went on relegation and still under loan moved to Sparktar Moscow, he scored one goal in 13 games befiore finally retiring from football.
