Everton head coach Rafa Benitez has praised Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi’s character and determination after helping the Toffees beat Championship side Huddersfield in last month’s Carabao Cup. Iwobi endured a fitness problem during last month’s Cup clash with Huddersfield but could still impress the Blues manager with his resilience.

Everton drew 1-1 with Huddersfield when their striker Moise Kean was sent off just on the hour mark. They, however, did well to beat the Championship side, still 2-1. The Nigerian was seen limping, but he remained on the field as Everton went on to win 2-1 thanks to Andros Townsend’s 79th-minute winner.
Rafa Benitez made this known in his programme notes for Monday’s visit to Burnley. The Spanish coach said: “I want to say how much I liked the character and determination of Alex Iwobi when he was hurt against Huddersfield but stayed on the pitch to help his teammates.
The Nigerian is not the only one that the manager praised. He also congratulated Tom Davies, who also had a problem in his quadriceps but kept working so hard. Iwobi has one goal and one assist so far this season for the Toffees.
