Toby Alderweireld’s Header Puts Tottenham Two Points Above Arsenal
After playing games unbeaten, Arsenal finally lost to Tottenham Hotspur through Toby Alderweireld’s late header, it was a North London derby and the first time Jose Mourinho is playing Arsenal as Tottenham coach. Tottenham came out victorious in the tightly-contested north London derby.
The game was as interesting as the every other derby because it was played behind closed doors but the atmosphere was however nice but the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would have been more lively with fans. Arsenal and Tottenham are all hoping to book their place in the European Leagues, for Arsenal Europa while Spurs are aiming the Champions League.
Arsenal took the lead after 16 minutes when Alexandre Lacazette’s rising drive flashed past Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris but Jose Mourinho’s side were level within three minutes when Son Heung-min took advantage of slack defending by Sead Kolasinac and David Luiz to score with a deft chip.
Both Arsenal and Tottenham had scoring chances but they failed to use it properly, Ben Davies 30-yard brilliant shot was denied by the bar and Arsenal keeper Emiliano Martinez in the first half while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also struck the frame of the goal after the break.
Arsenal had the greater share of possession but it was Spurs who struck decisively nine minutes from time when Alderweireld glanced in Son’s corner, securing a win that places them in the eighth place position with two points ahead of the Gunners. Toby Alderweireld’s goal was very key for the home team because their main contenders won their own game Wolves and Sheffield United, Sheffield thrashed Chelsea 3-0 yesterday.
