Following the comment made by the skipper of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon Vincent Aboubakar, the player has come out to defend himself saying his teammates are to be blamed for their loss. The former F.C Porto player said Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah does not impress him and so even though he has seen the player score goals in the English Premier League, the Egyptian is yet to impress him.
Vincent Aboubakar Blames Teammates for their Defeat
Cameroon played out a full-time goalless draw for the first time in the ongoing African Cup of Nation which they are hosting. The game was forced into extra time. The Pharaohs scored all three of their penalty kicks while hosts Cameroon was able to score just one making 3-1 in favour of Egypt.
Cameroon dominated the whole game which may be why Vincent Aboubakar is putting the blame on his teammates as they failed to take advantage of some of the few chances they had. And during the shootout, only Vincent Aboubakar Aboubakar scored Cameroon’s only goal, while the rest of the players missed.
After the match, speaking on his post-match press conference Aboubakar, who is still the top scorer with six goals, said individual play rather than collective play was their undoing. According to him, he said: “It’s a big disappointment,” he lamented.
He also said: “Cameroon organizes a CAN and is eliminated in the semi-finals. Everyone wanted to do what they want and here is the result today. When we play collectively, we do good things.” They will now face Burkina Faso in the third-place match on Saturday while Egypt and Senegal will battle in Sunday’s final.
