Watford F.C is on a comeback journey as they surprisingly beat Manchester United in front of theur home fans yesterday Sunday. Since Pearson’s appointment, Watford have taken four points from three matches. They lost to Liverpool in their last game and also lost last weekend game but they pick a much needed confidence as they beat Manchester United.
Could this be the comeback for the bottom side who has only won two matches in their last 18 games in the EPL? They did well to pick all three points from the EPL Matchday 18 encounter against Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer’s side. If they had lost it wound have sealed their Relegation from the English Premier League this victory now means there is still hope for them.
The great escape on for Watford?
Watford had a poor start to the season. They key matches they were suppose to win as a resul they seat in the bottom of the league table. The club started with sacking Javi Gracia due to poor performance and then replaced him with Quique Sanchez Flores. Quique started well drawing his first game to Arsenal before losing woefully to Manchester City. He was later sacked and then Pearson became the third manager of the campaign.
Watford had nine points from 17 matches. No club has avoided relegation from the Premier League with so few points at this stage of the season. The Hornets had won just one of their previous 20 league games. Watford had gone 12 home league fixtures without a win after beating Fulham in April.
Come Back Time for Watford In EPL 2019/20 season
They were one of only two sides in the top four English divisions yet to win a home league game. The other is Southend in the League One. Watford were the only club in Europe’s elite five divisions yet to score 10 goals this season.
But the game yesterday with the win, it seem to have restore confidence to the team. Seing their skipper is also back from injury they justr escape the relegation. Clearly they are still mired in a survival battle, but the picture suddenly looks a little rosier from a statistical point of view based.
If the Hornets had lost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side they would have become the seventh side to have nine points or fewer after 18 games. And the previous six all went on to be relegated. However, the goals from Ismaila Sarr and skipper Troy Deeney helped Watford climb in the list of worst Premier League starts.
Deeney’s return to full fitness has bolstered the Hornets attack, which has produced the fewest goals in Europe’s top five leagues. “I need to stress that we can’t get carried away with it, but I’ve seen lots to encourage myself that we’re capable,” said Pearson. The manager who saved Leicester five seasons ago by leading them to seven victories in their final nine matches optimistic of not going to relegation.
David de Gea’s Error Gave Watford the Victory
United fans were all singing in praises to David de Gea as they sang “Take a shot and he’ll save it I swear.” Then, sadly the most unlikely shot he could not saved as the home team banged in the first goal of the day. Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s foul in the penalty box gave the skipper the chance to score his goal of the season which makes it one goal in two matches.
David de Gea has not really been at his best this season even though he has made pretty good saves. No player has made more errors leading to goals in the Premier League than David de Gea. The Spain international fumbled Sarr’s weak shot and allowed the ball to slip into the back of his net. That gave Watford a precious lead which they doubled shortly after to condemn United to ninth position. United now has the lowest points tally in the top flight at Christmas which only happened in 1989.
