At least four English Premier League players that play for Argentina were affected, and they face the brunt of ‘lying’ on documents that they failed to gain entry into Brazil for the match. The players include Aston Villa duo Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia, Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso, and Cristian Romero.

According to ESPN Brasil, FIFA and the Federal Government and CONMEBOL managed to strike an agreement to have all four players available to play the encounter. However, this happened a few minutes before the start of the game, before Brazil’s health authority Anvisa entered the pitch and the police and ordered the match to be stopped until the four players were off the field and detained.
