Spanish La Liga top side Barcelona is reportedly set to confirm the appointment of their former player Xavi as the club’s new head coach before the week runs out. The Catalan giants sacked Ronald Koeman last and appointed their junior team head coach Sergi Barjuan to be in charge of the team until a new coach was found.
Barcelona to Name Xavi as their New Head Coach
Sergi Barjuan has overseen two matches so far. He has a draw with Alaves and a narrow Champions League win over Dynamo Kyiv so far. According to reports, he has been widely regarded as the favourite to succeed Koeman at Camp Nou, although a recent report claimed that Al-Sadd were ‘furious’ with Barca’s public interest in their former player and present coach.
However, the Blaugrana are seemingly set to get their man either way, as the reports say that the club is expecting to reveal Xavi as their new manager on Thursday. The report also said that Barjuan would remain in charge for Saturday’s La Liga trip to Celta Vigo before Xavi takes the reins for the first time against Espanyol on November 18.
Xavi has won 62 of his 90 games in charge of Al-Sadd and previously made 767 appearances for Barcelona during a glittering 17-year spell in the first team.
