Woman uses hot iron on 10 year old.
A woman simply known as Mrs. Ifeoma Ezeugwu has been arrested by the Enugu state Police for drilling two nails into the head of Miss Chinonye Nnadi, her 10 year old house help .
The 10 year old girl was also allegedly burnt with a hot pressing iron by he Madam, Ifeoma, giving her terrible scars all over.
WACOL, the Womens Aid Collective who disclosed this callous act to the press in Enugu described the situation as an evil, horrific violence on a girl child.
Prof. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, Founding Director of WACOL /Tamar SARC, narrated that her office was alerted on the abuse of the 10 year old Chinonye who had serious body injuries sustained from her Madam’s torture. Apparently, Chinonye works for this woman as as her househelp.
Prof, Ezeilo said,
“This is gory and torture of a young innocent girl whose only crime is being born to a poor widow who had to give her up to live with someone in the hope that she will get an education and survive. We pray that she recovers.
“We demand full wrath of the law on this woman that inflicted such a level of physical injury on this girl.
Ngozi added that she spoke to the victim’s distraught mother who is a poor widow in Aku village, Nsukka, Enugu. She said,
“It is time to eradicate child labour, ban and punish heavily anyone using children as domestic help. The Child Rights Act and the NAPTIP Act must be effectively enforced. WACOL will follow through to ensure that justice is done in this matter.”
She also thanked the good people of Enugu who constantly raise alarms and seek help from WACOL in instances like this.
