Following the announcement made by President Nana Akufo Ado of Ghana that Twitter has chosen the country as its Headquarters in Africa, there have been questions about why the social media management choose the country over Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Twitter has explained the rationale behind Ghana’s choice as the host of Africa’s Headquarters.
It described the country as a champion for democracy, adding that Ghana’s recent appointment to Host the African Continental Free Trade Area is in line with Twitter’s goal to establish its presence in the region.
The statement further expressed optimism that Ghana would support its efforts to improve and tailor its service across Africa. According to the statement made available by Twitter, Ghana is a supporter of free speech.
Twitter Chooses Ghana
Twitter revealed that it had already laid foundations through partnerships with Amref Health Africa in Kenya, Afrochella in Ghana, Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative in Nigeria, and The HackLab Foundation in Ghana.
However, the social media app vowed to continue to explore compelling ways to use the positive power of Twitter to strengthen communities through employee engagement, platform activation, and corporate giving as part of its long-term commitment to the African region.
