The state of the nation grows bad by the day while those charged with the responsibility of protecting the lives of properties of the citizens are the ones even doing the killings. How did we get here, who blindfolded us? Who fooled us to the point our crying voices is a sweet melody to the people who are to help us so instead of coming to help, they sit and laugh to our cry.
The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is only but an extension of organized criminals who rob us in a said legitimate way because they are recognized by the law. They stop people especially young people search their phones and most time drag them to the Automatic Teller Machine and have them withdraw money for them before you will be allowed to go.
There have a series of unjust killings by this said group SARS who are supposed to protect the lives and property of the people of Nigeria. Early this year in February some members of the SARS operatives killed the extent captain of Remo Stars FC of the Nigerian Professional Football League and till date, the persons who did this evil act have not been brought to book.
The rise of protesters in recent times for the dissolving of SARS seems to have yielded result as the Inspector General of Police officially disbanded the ground not up to four days after the broadcast, news came in of same SARS operatives still brutalizing and killing innocent peaceful protesters.
Nigeria is speedily growing into a zoo where anything goes, the voice of the masses has now become a normal noise which those elected in the position help are used to and so they are no more bothered of the happening in the land. Recently they an increase in the price of fuel and electricity tariff of which the Nigerian Labor congress came together to say no, they scheduled a strike protest after the government called some of the officials and the news came that they will not be protesting again meanwhile all the things which resulted to the strike was met.
The masses of no longer have who to turn to or seek help from, but like what the famous philosopher Thomas Hobbs said about nature governance, he said “The natural condition of mankind is what would exist if there were no government, no civilization, no laws and no common power to restrain human nature. The state of nature is like a war of all against all in which human beings constantly seek to destroy each other in an incessant pursuit for power.”
Nigeria is drifting to the point of lawlessness where it will become the survive of the fittest as those charged with the responsibility of protecting the citizen are failing daily. The #EndSars protest has already claimed over seven lives after the disbanding of the group with the president saying those responsible will be brought to book while the ones said before that will be brought to book are still nowhere to be found.
Saying Nigeria is a failed state is actually an understatement because it is already a failed one, there is obviously nothing working in the country presently. The question people are asking now is how did we get here? But with all that is happening, we just hope the country does not go to the point where civilians will have to buy or make their own weapons because when a man is pushed to the edge when he gets to the edge he will have to face the person pushing him and that is what the Nigerian government is doing now.
