UAE authorities have again placed a ban on Nigerian Passengers, among other sister-African nations hoping to spend the festivities in their region.
The United Arab Emirates, UAE, earlier lifted the travel restriction on passenger flights from Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia following pressures from the governments of the mentioned countries.
UAE Flight Restriction Placed to Contain Omicron Variant
However, according to the Emiratis, the real reason for issuing a restriction of the various countries’ passengers was strict because of the Omicron COVID-19 Variant currently ravaging lives in several countries of the world.
On Thursday, the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Emergency Management Authority, NCEMA, and the General Civil Aviation Authority, GCAA, announced their intentions to withhold flights for the time being.
According to their authorities, in the attempt to contain the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 Variant, the ban on flights will be taking effect from Saturday, December 25, 2021, until further notice.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Government also reciprocated the actions of the Emirati Government in placing flight restrictions on their airlines to the country and lifted the ban a few days ago before the recent developments.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has since been identifying cases of the spread of the Omicron Variant across various parts of the country.
