The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has confirmed to move its weekends to Saturdays and Sundays.
The UAE media office announced this in a tweet on Tuesday, saying Fridays have always been a sacred day for worshippers of Islam.
UAE Updates Weekends
It is known that most Gulf countries have their weekends on Friday to Saturday, with work resuming on Sunday.
The tweet added that the reason for the more extended weekend is to “boost productivity and work-life balance.”
The country has said Friday working hours will be from 7:30 am to 12 pm, and working hours from Monday to Thursday will be 7:30 am – 3:30 pm.
This change will kick start from Jan. 1, 2022, and apply to Federal Government entities.
The Minister for Human Resources and Emiratisation said this decision would improve productivity and trade in the country.
Natasha Turak of CNBC news said, “We believe that it will enable the United Arab Emirates to attract talent that would want to have more comparable workdays and weekends with their home countries,”
