Twitter says it has detected a coordinated social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of their employees with access to internal systems and tools.
The Twitter support team made this known after some hackers attacked Twitter accounts belonging to Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Apple.
Other Twitter accounts are those of former President Barack Obama, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian West, Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos and Mike Bloomberg.
The attackers posted tweets that appeared to promote a cryptocurrency scam soliciting donations via Bitcoin to their verified profiles on Wednesday, July 15.

Twitter noted that it locked accounts that were compromised once it got information about the incident with the promise to restore access to the original account owner when it is secured to do so.
In a tweet by its CEO, Jack Dorsey Twitter described the incident as such that made Wednesday a tough day for the social media platform.
The company said it is still investigating the breach and what other data may have been compromised adding that the number of prominent accounts impacted made it arguably the biggest security incident in Twitter’s history.
You will recall that the account of Twitter CEO was hacked last year hence raising concerns about whether any account on the platform can truly avoid being compromised.
Meanwhile, the company has warned the public against sending cryptocurrency or money in relation to the incident not to fall victim to the Cryptocurrency Scam.
