Do you want to be the one to carry the torch for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics? Well, applications are out and you can be the one.
The Tokyo 2020 organizing committee has announced that applications to become one of the around 10,000 torchbearers will be open this June 2019.
Anyone from around the world and in Japan can apply. The rally’s vision/theme “Hope Light’s Our Way”. Preference will be set to those who embody the following: Providing essential daily support for family & friends or have overcome diversity; those who are accepting of different backgrounds and have led initiatives to welcome newcomers into their local community with a sense of togetherness in the community.
For applicants aged under 17 consent will be liable from a parent or guardian. The public can submit up to five applications via the Tokyo 2020 Torch Rally representatives. Or through any local prefecture where they have personal connections with.
The torch relay presenting partners include Coco-cola Japan, Toyota, Nippon life and NTT Communications.
Nippon life and NTT will commence acceptance of applications from 24th June, while, Coco-cola Tokyo will commence on 17 June.
The announcement of the successful candidates will be after December 2019.
